I recently had the pleasure of photographing this true bombshell, and we shot 5 or 6 gorgeous looks in everything from a ball gown to a bodysuit. But at the end of the session we settled right down. She wore a simple black top and brought the best kind of sass, and I channeled some 1990s-Herb-Ritts-b&w-simplicity vibez and the results just made me so happy.
Although I love working with colour, simple black & white portraits like this will always hold a special place for me. They are so timeless and have the potential to be so moving.
I find that simplifying things in this way allows me to challenge myself as a portrait photographer - to set my focus on capturing connection and a sense of the subject's strength, her power, her spirit. Lofty goals, for sure. But worth striving for, I think :)
What are your feelings about black & white portraiture? I'd love to hear whether it speaks to you, or moves you in a specific way :)
