Recently I had a client who came to me to help her fix a problem, and I was so chuffed she asked and of course delighted to be able to help.
She'd recently started a new job (a dream-job scenario - yay!) with a company based out-of-province. Although she'd be working from her home base in Calgary, the company flew her out to spend a few days with the head corporate office, and during that time they had a photoshoot to create business portraits for each of the team members. The problem was that the shoot ended up being a little rushed because of imminent rain rolling in, and so my client's turn in front of the camera was rushed. This, of course, resulted in a headshot she was really not excited about.
So she called me up and asked whether I could potentially create some portraits for her that would be cohesive with the rest of the teams' shots, even though we couldn't visit the same location where the original shoot took place. Of course I said yes! We scheduled a Headshot Session for her asap so that we could get the photos ready for the launch of the company's new site. A quick jaunt out behind the studio found us the perfect treed location and we managed to get a rain-free day.
For me, it's so important that my sessions don't feel rushed. I'm all for working efficiently (I hate to waste anyone's time) but I feel strongly about having time to chat during shoots - to get to know my subjects, even if just in a small way. And I do this whether it's a full Signature Session, a Simplicity Session, or a more business-focused Headshot Session. Slowing down a bit allows me to get the best out of the person in front of my lens. It's not the most comfortable thing, being photographed, so I will always go out of my way to try and make it as painless as possible. Maybe even enjoyable! ;)
My headshot sessions always include at least 3 different looks/setups, so after we finished shooting outside, we came back into the studio, made coffees, and got on with creating a handful of classic profile portraits so that my client could update her LinkedIn and social media channels as well. Even if you don't want to change outfits during your session, we can always create a variety of looks with different lighting and backdrop settings.
